What a great idea, Wry Bread! (I'm assuming it was you.) Here are three of my favorites:

This is a website I go to every morning, after the New York Times one. It's got everything -- politics, book and movie reviews, even a "Dear Abby"- inspired advice column, if Abby were a spiritual, bohemian, left-wing, extremely insightful guy. There is also "Open Salon," a place readers can write about whatever they want. I love this site.

This used to be a site geared to the New York media scene. Lots of insider gossip and very snarky. Sometimes I felt that I had to be a 20-something working in an entry-level job in publishing (and going to lots of hipster parties at night to get the free food) to feel a part of this site. But now it's changed to include a lot more breaking news, Hollywood gossip, and just general sarcastic articles about almost anything. Very fun site, if you want something lite.

"Stuff White People Like" is a hilarious site that makes fun of a certain type of person that you might find sipping a Venti Part-Skim, No Foam, Caramel, Mochacchino Crappuccino, while renovating a brownstone in Park Slope and listening to NPR. The guy who runs the site doesn't write often, but when he does, it is SO funny. Go to the archives to read all of the past entries.

What's Good?

Here's a little project for The Bloguettes, if you so choose, that won't take long and will have a big payoff.

It's just this: I have discovered some sites and blogs that fill me with wonder and awe at how

* endearing
* smart
* original
* funny
* personable

people are. And when that happens, I like to share my discoveries with other, like-minded persons. That means You. So take a minute and list some Absolutely Fabulous Most Favorite Links to the sites that you love the most.

Now for some rules: No more that 3 or maybe 4 links per person. Yes, I know, it's hard to choose, but we can't devote this entire blog to favorite websites, now, can we? Another rule (don't you hate rules?): Anything goes. We won't make fun of you for choosing to mention Lindsay Lohan's blog or the NRA's website. Which brings me to my final, totally arbitrary rule: Please include a reason why we should bother going to that site. Make us want to go there.

Hope you're up for the challenge. Here's my list.

Big City girl meets cowboy, marries him and goes to live on a cattle ranch. She's funny, he's handsome and virile, four adorable kids. Ho hum. But then . . . you realize that the photos she posts are stunning, her point of view is unique, funny, and charming, and every recipe she posts make you want to get into the kitchen and cook.

Another woman's blog-like website, this one has helped to define the polymer clay art world. Not everyone will find it interesting but some of the work will make your jaw drop.

Yes, kids, it's the good 'ole Westchester Library System. It's on my list because not only can I reserve books, but I can download audio books, get book reviews, and read articles from publications that I'd normally have to pay to read online. I like to open up two windows in my browser, one with Amazon and the other with WLS. I can go back and forth, see what's good on Amazon and check out whether I can reserve it at the library. Beautiful.

This site is the granddaddy of hipster tech. In fact, it's been around so long that it's not cool anymore. Which suits me fine, 'cause neither am I. They've got great stories like 'Great Geek Debates: Kirk v.Picard' and 'How to Photograph Strangers on the Street,' as well as articles about the latest technology.

It's a Sad Night


Heard that they are laying flowers on his star at the Walk of Fame. Only what they don't know is that they are putting flowers on the other Michael Jackson, a British film star! The King of Pop's star is covered by a red carpet because it is the première of “Brüno” tonight, starring you-know-who.

Yes, he was a fantastic dancer...no one ever danced like him! I once knew someone who went to see his Thriller tour concert, and was lukewarm about going. When she came into work the next day, it was as if she'd gotten religion....she was hooked! She said she would never see anything like that again in her life...amazing the command of the stage that he had, and how innovative he was with his dance and singing!

It's a very sad night. ~W.B.

OK, so he had a problem or two. Or thirteen or fourteen. The guy was an Icon. He had an amazing sense of style, done with humor (come on—those thin white 'old man' socks with tight black pants that ended 3 inches above his ankle is funny). I challenge anyone to sit still while listening to some of his greatest hits—Billy Jean, Thriller, Beat It—the list goes on and on.

Wecome, PaNeTToNe!

Yes! The youngest addition to Les Baguettes has a natural disposition to this medium. So I officially welcome PaNeTToNe!
PaNeTToNe is a sweet yeast cake that is a traditional part of Christmas in Italy, but it is served with coffee and for breakfast throughout the year in many regions. Panettone keeps well in an airtight container and can be reheated whole (and I really like it spread with butter and jam! or Kleenex and Nintendo!). My mom has a MAD recipe for this cake. She's been baking pannettones for many of her 83 years.
Our own PaNeTToNe, has a French-Canadian origin as well, which makes her more than suitable to be a Baguette.

What's Not to Love About Perfect Laundry

Kudos to Senorita Cornbread. Nothing more American, Apple Pie, Star Spangled Banner than a load of fresh laundry on the line. Who uses those perfect dish cloths anyway? Have you seen mine lately? They look like a truck ran over them about a million times. Well if this gorgeous bucolic photo has done nothing else, it has put me under pressure to buy new dish cloths. Just another reason for some retail therapy. Off to yoga. Ashanti. GF

Another one bites the dust!!! RIP John and Kate


While it comes to no surprise to me, some may be shocked to learn that John and Kate Gosselin are getting a divorce. I could see it from tthe time the show first started. It always looked like they couldn't stand to be around each other. She is a super Bi*&h ( and sometimes rightfully so due to her husband's stupdity) and he is just totally clueless (c'mon, did he really think that we would all believe that he was just out with a "friend" who happens to be a girl at 2:30 am?) Looks like he's gonna have to start hitting more of those college parties. Also, their show is going to be on hiatus. I think its clear that no one really wants to watch just a single mother of 8 trying to meet a man and parent her kids. Guess their cash cow is dead, for now.

Oh, if any of you want to see him in the flesh, I hear he frequents Front Street, a club on the waterfront in Newburgh. Field trip anyone???

Sunday Saucing

Just finished a half-successful garage sale. Thanks to White Bread for her endless enthusiasm and help. It was a half-rain out day with great traffic and some cash.
